Welcome To The New Sherwood Forest: SignaCert

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved stories about people finding hidden treasures, or recapturing bounty that was wrongfully stolen by people abusing their power. While I enjoy the swashbuckling and action parts of most of the classics, my favorite tales are those wherein the treasure hunters (or reclaimers) are heroes working for a more noble cause than simply their own profit. Yes, Captain Jack Sparrow is funny and charming, but I am thinking more like Robin Hood here. Robin and his Merry Men reclaimed monies that had been wrongfully taken from the poor… and then gave it back to them! The lads were charming, talented, confident and very good at what they did. But they used those talents for the greater good.

Welcome to the new Sherwood Forest: SignaCert.

I am not strictly equating our team here at SignaCert to Robin and his band, but there are quiet a few similarities that amuse me. Let me elaborate on three. First, we did find a hidden treasure. SignaCert was originally founded back in 2004 by Tripwire co-founder, Wyatt Starnes. Our team at CoreTrace (acquired by Lumension in 2012) knew about SignaCert because we were licensing its whitelist, the Global Trust Repository (GTR). There were only two commercially available whitelists, and we liked the GTR’s “quality” approach far better than the “quantity” one of the alternative. Harris Corporation acquired the company as a part of a secure cloud offering that was eventually abandoned in a management change. We knew the value of the whitelist, so we acquired the company from Harris in 2013. Imagine our excitement when we discovered that the whitelist alone was not the only treasure. The real value is in using the whitelist as a part of the most actionable compliance automation solution available, SignaCert Integrity. Unlike older, file-based solutions, Integrity simplifies compliance, provides continuous monitoring and reduces the time / expense of manual audits.

Which brings me to the second similarity between Robin’s gang and us: we want to help folks recover some of their “lost” monies. Well, we aren’t really going to go ask the old compliance providers to give money back, but we can reduce what you are spending and make sure you are getting value. There is no reason that the proverbial Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John should continue taking your money when they aren’t delivering commensurate value. You should keep more money in your own pocket! Not only is Integrity the most actionable continuous compliance monitoring solution, it is also the most affordable! Integrity is priced at 2/3 the *annual maintenance fee* of the large providers.

Finally, there is the third similarity: our team is really, really good. I am not talking about me personally here (I think I play the part of Friar Tuck. Not coincidentally, I make a mean beef stew. Ping me if you want the recipe.). I am talking about the folks that built the solution (the original tech geniuses are still with us), the ones that are extending it to make it even more simple and cost-effective, and the great people that are working with our customers and partners every day to ensure the value is delivered. I am talking about the merry men and women that love giving back, loving delivering value and love making the world safer.

Welcome to the new Sherwood Forest. We are looking forward to bringing you many happy returns.
