March 20, 2012

The US Patent and Trademark Office issues patent number 8,139,588

Portland, OR – SignaCert, a leading provider of IT compliance solutions, announced the issuance of an additional patent covering a method to establish routes based on the trust scores of routers within an IP routing domain.

On March 20, 2012, the US Patent and Trademark Office issued patent number 8,139,588 to the inventors Starnes, Bleckmann, Andersen, and Hardjono. Entitled "Method and apparatus to establish routes based on the trust scores of routers within an IP routing domain," the new patent builds on the work acknowledged in several previous patents granted to SignaCert.

New and protected inventions in the most recent grant include:

  • A method for selecting an optimal path between routers, sending sensitive data on paths through routers known to be trustworthy and load balancing other non-sensitive data through underutilized paths that are less trustworthy.
  • A mechanism for reporting trustworthiness between routers in a secure fashion so that path selection is based on the true trustworthiness of selected routers.
  • A software implementation of the route selection based on need of trustworthiness for the data to be transmitted.
